Toffee Top Bars

2 cups firmly packed brown sugar

2 cup flour

½ cup butter

1 tsp baking powder

½ tsp salt

1 tsp vanilla

1 cup milk

1 egg

1 cup chocolate chips

 

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In large bowl, mix together sugar, flour, and butter.   Use pastry cutter or hands to mix to resemble course crumbs.  Remove 1 cup crumbs and set aside. 

Add baking powder, salt, milk, egg, vanilla to mixture.  Mix together with fork, continue blending until smooth batter.  Pour into a prepared 9*13 pan.  Sprinkle reserved crumbs over batter.  Sprinkle chocolate chips.  Spread evenly.  Bake 35 minutes or until tooth pick comes clean.  Set pan on rack to cool completely before cutting with sharp knife.  Store in an air tight container.
