Elsie's Shoo Fly Pie

2 - 9in unbaked pie shells

 

Top

2 cups flour

2 cups brown sugar

½ cup Crisco

Mix into crumbs (take out 1 cup for topping)

Add to the remaining crumbs

1 cup sour milk (I often just add a splash of lemon juice to regular milk)

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 egg

 

Mix and pour over syrup in the pie shell

Bottom

1 cup molasses

1 cup hot water

1 teaspoon baking soda

Stir together (I use a 2-cup measuring cup)

 

Pour into 2 pie shells

Add “cake” mixture

Top with 1 cup reserved crumbs

 

Bake 400 degrees for 10 minutes then lower to 350 degrees for 30 minutes
